POLISH AMERICAN HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION

Upcoming PAHA Convention, Seattle, Wash., January 8-11, 1998

What is PAHA? The Polish American Historical Association (PAHA) is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization devoted to the study of Polish-American history and culture. Founded in 1942 by noted historians Oskar Halecki and Mieczyslaw Haiman, PAHA was at first part of the Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences in America. In 1948, it adopted its present name and became an autonomous scholarly society.

Since its inception over 50 years ago, PAHA has promoted the study of Polish life in North America in all its facets and through all relevant disciplines. PAHA is an active affliate of the American Historical Association and works closely with other organizations in the U.S. and abroad to further the study of ethnic history and culture.

Membership includes a subscription to PAHA's quarterly newsletter as well as to its twice-yearly academic journal Polish American Studies. Each year, in January, PAHA hold an annual meeting in concert with the American Historical Association, featuring presentations on all aspects of ethnic studies with a special focus on Polish Americans.
